*** OUR u11's RUN UP (AND ROLL DOWN!) RIVINGTON PIKE FOR MUCH-NEEDED FUNDS ***

Wayne Gates4 Nov 2024 - 13:06

What a day was had by our players, coaching staff and parents yesterday...

As always, our squads are pro-active when it comes to raising much-needed funds to keep them self-sufficient - so yesterday was no different as our u11 squad geared themselves up for a challenge and a half - completing a sponsored walk up Rivington Pike!

Knowing that the Christmas Party was on the horizon - and with a lot of other plans already in place for other events throughout the season - we knew that we needed to pull in some money so armed with sponsor-forms, the kids, coaches and their parents set about raising as much as they could before setting off - and then took buckets with them so they could be filled along the way!

It took us a total of two hours to get to the top - having left at 10.30am - and with the two buckets in front of them, they also managed to collect £137 from the public that saw us walking! How cool is that? The team picture and logo on the front, there was no way on earth that people didn't know Breightmet United were 'on the march'! As a team, we walked all the way there together - and back down again (make sure you check out the video of how we got down the hill - it's ace!) and if you know the coaches of this squad, they also managed to get a bit of training in on the summit! Rolling down the hill was so much fun - but running back to the top of it wasn't as pleasurable....

It was so good to see the team - with their friends and families - having so much fun as we made our way and it was once again showed that the 'Breightmet' spirit is there in abundance when we want it to be! An excellent effort by all - and we are so very proud of each and every one of you!

The lads were thrilled when Rob made them run up the hill repeatedly (not!) but they absolutely loved rolling back down it! And one moment of magic that made us all laugh was when Rob was slowly taking his time to get down without falling - and Joshua decided to take it upon himself to slide down at speed and clean Rob out - which was obviously followed by the loudest cheer of the day from the rest of the team! Funny as, we can tell you...

But what a great day and although we knew some of the parents were still hungover from the great Fireworks Display we had at the Club the night before, they didn't half sweat it out with this walk! We know that everybody had a great time and will probably want to do it again - when their muscles have recovered!

All in all, it looks as though we raised over £900.00 - which is an absolute success - so we wanted to use this opportunity to say thank you to everybody - those involved in the planning, those doing the walk and to those people that kindly put their hands in their pockets and donated some money for us. It will all go towards ensuring these kids have the best Christmas party and that they have whatever equipment it is that they need as we move into 2025. A great effort by all - and we are so very thankful to have you in our family...

Check out the photos here (The u11's hike up - and roll down - Rivington Pike! and make sure you keep an eye-out for the next fund-raising event we do as your support is always greatly appreciated...

Rest those weary legs people - you've got a game on Saturday...
