*** THE LIONS MAKE THE SEMI-FINAL ***

Wayne Gates10 May - 19:50

A tough battle sees the boys into the last-four...

There is nothing like Cup Football on a Saturday morning - no mater the age-group - and as the Lions awoke this morning, those butterflies in the belly can only be produced by knock-out tournaments. And we knew we had a big ask on our hands this morning as it was North Walkden Robins that were making their way to the Lane for this Cup Quarter-Final. We'd have to be on top of our game if we wanted to progress that's for sure...

We do have to say that the pitch looked pristine today and with the sun shining, Craig and Co. really are making The Lane the enby of all that visit. Well done chaps...

Back to the game though - and we needn't have worried - because after a tightly contest 50 or so minutes, it was the Lions that edged through - helped by an awesome display from our defence including Charlie, Harlow and Josh - all of whom stood firm and acted like a brick-wall in front of Ioan in our net. He produced another flawless display between those stick to keep a clean-sheet and when you do that. you'll never lose the game...

It was a fierce battle in that there midfield - and our Moses, Noah, Finn, Chester and Mugisha were relentless in their efforts - snapping into tackles and setting us off with some great passing - and as they worked their socks off, they really did dictate the passages of play. Striker Thomas worked tirelessly up top - creating space and opportunities for himself and his team-mates - but the decisive moment came when our sub Moses Gemama came onto the pitch. He had been involved for just over a minutes before he sprinted onto a great ball through the channel and finishing clinically inside the far post. The Lions fans' were jubilant and the noise around The Lane was loud - and that was that. It was Breightmet United Lions that were into the hat for the draw and one game away from the Final...

A massive hats-off to today's opponents who gave it their all right until the very end and we sincerely hope you have a safe journey back. For now though, this was about us - and the fans enjoyed celebrating with their heroes when the final-whistle went! Thanks so much for coming down and getting behind the kids today and keep your eye out for news of the semi-final...

Chester Burt was awarded the Parents Player of the Match and the Coaches Players went to Harlow Kirkman - so well done you two - and well done to all of the Lions that played their part today...

Another Saturday. Another win for Breightmet. Standard...
