Legends provide complete performance

A devastating complete performance from the LEGENDS saw Atherton Colliers beaten 7-0 at Dolan Park.

After a week of downpour, saw the team awaking to nice dry weather and Dolan Parks pitch looking superb, the rain was most certainly needed for the pitch.

Team news|

The starting eleven were Riley B in the sticks, back four of Trey, Bentley, Jak and Riley E. A midfield four of Reece on the right wing, Captain Antoni in the middle with Elliot and Zak on the left wing. Lakari occupied the CAM role with Jake up top.

On the bench or what we like to call 'Game Changers' were Connor, Jacob, Noah, Oliver and Tyreese.

First half|

Team talks were done, warm ups complete, it was game time, just like that the referee blew to start the game.

The opening 10 minutes were played almost exclusively in the Legends half as the Avengers, put on the early pressure but the home side kept strong. The following those open exchanges the middle two of Antoni and Elliot started to take control of the middle, clear-cut chances were few and far between, however, with Zak curling an effort over the bar.

Then a moment of brilliance happened from our wing wizard Reece on the 12th minute, as he received the ball forward by Trey, he dropped his shoulder to his right which sent his marker for a hot dog, whipped in a delightful cross for Jake, who did not need to break stride. Our number 29 hit his volley first time in to the top right hand corner - 'a banger' as described by Jake himself. What a great bit of movement and goal, that set the tone for the rest of the morning. 1-0

Straight away the Avengers number 10 managed to evaded both Trey and Jak, as he powered towards the Legends goal and got his shot off it was excellently saved and kept hold of by the Breightmet shot stopper Riley B - what a save!

On the 18th minute as Jake put pressure on the Avengers number 1, he could only clear to our number 23 Lakari, who brought the ball down, instantly beat the only Avenger defender close and slot under the onrushing keeper to make it 2-0 - a great bit of pressure from Jake and composure from Lakari.

As the Avengers mounted an attack down the Legends right hand side, Trey nipped in front of his player to beat him to the ball, no first touch required as our number 2 provided a quality pass forward that put a chance on a plate for Lakari, who delightfully took it on and knocked it passed the keeper. That goal defined the word 'counter attack'! 3-0

Second half|

The half time team talk was simple, we had a great first half but it's 0-0 now, we have not won just yet and the Avengers will come out wanting to get back into this game, so stay strong at the back and continue to work hard - we will be fine then.

Avengers' emerged from the interval in the mood to get back into the game, the coaches were correct and just 10 minutes from the second half kicking off, the tricky left winger for the Avengers dazzled his run, combined with Trey and Jak he was brought down. The ref blew and pointed to the spot, was this the way back into the game for the away side? Their number 11 grabbed the ball, placed it on the spot, big gulp of air, looked up. Saw the Breightmet number 1 stood confident, whacking his hands together, as the number 11 got his penalty off, the Legends keeper dived to his left and saved the penalty with his feet - NO WAY PAST - the home crowd went wild and so did Riley's team mates - it was a superb stop and his clean sheet was in tacked!

Textbook holding midfield play from Antoni set the next opportunity up, the No.6 doggedly retrieving possession before expertly sending his pass diagonally to the right. Lakari picked up the ball before taking on his marker, as he flew passed her, Lakari looked up and fired it across the 6 yard box to find Zak at the back post, the current top goal scorer lapped up that opportunity as he tapped it home. 4-0

Legends fifth was a thing of beauty, a sweeping move from back to front with Lakari involved throughout. The sequence concluded with Zak befuddling his marker and slipping a weighted pass into Lakari who, from a tight angle, dispatched a delicious shot off but the Avengers shot stopper showed a strong hand that rolled out to Jacob 17 yards out. Our number 8 showed great feet to adjust his body and powered a strike into the top corner that left the keeper rooted. He then peeled away, doing a roly poly before doing a star jump for the camera to celebrate a well taken goal, pure class that Jacob 5-0

The hosts were rampant and Connor and Noah each went close to scoring prior to Jak heading wide from a great corner from Lakari. Then the away side went even closer down the otherside, as both Bentley and Riley E blocked two strikes but the third strike headed to the top corner before the buoyant Riley B produced an excellent diving save, as the ball fell 10 yards but the Avengers number 11 effort cannoned off the post and out for a goal kick.

Again, the Legends were utterly ruthless in winning the ball back at the back from Jak who went on a mazy run before superbly finding Reece, Reece first time into Oliver who held it up. The little number 14 found Jacob who got his shot off but the away keeper could not handle the power and let it slip for the pacey Lakari to nip in and tuck it into the back of the net to make it a hat trick for 'LK'! 6-0

There was to be no let-up as the team from Breightmet mercilessly made the scoreline ever-more handsome.

Bentley this time found Connor in the middle, our number 7 flicked the ball out wide to find Tyreese, as he delightfully found Jake, the powerful striker jinxed passed a marker, before bouldering passed another and firing in his brace! Great composure Jake 7-0

Just as the match was winding down, an aggressive challenge came in from the Avengers as Tyreese did not know where the ball had flown off to, kicked like he was going for the ball that was not there, another Avengers player pushed Tyreese that made both players go head to head. The referee pulled both players over and sent them both off. A little harsh from both coaches and both parents but that is the FA ruling so it was a great call from the official.

Full Time| Breightmet United Legends 7 Atherton Collieries AFC Avengers 0

MOTM kindly sponsored by our away shirt sponsors Girling Engineering LTD and individually by Winny Way Shops aka AsBa Newsagents was awarded to Riley B! Breightmet's number 1 was in fine form this morning as his handling throughout was on point alike his distribution. He made two crucial one on one saves in both halves. Just when you felt like the opposition were going to concede, Riley saved the penalty kick. He fully deserves the award, plaudits and more importantly his clean sheet!!

Legends TV caught up with Barlow and here's what he had to say; ''Wow, what a contrast from last week to what we all saw this morning. The boys turned up with something to prove as a group I felt they knew last week just wasn't good enough from their own point of view, this proved evident after how they all performed. It was a complete performance from them. 7 goals, a very pleasing clean sheet and 3 lovely points, same again next week please lads.''
