**LEGENDS COME AWAY WITH A POINT**

**LEGENDS COME AWAY WITH A POINT**

Martin Barlow12 Oct - 16:23

The Legends rue missed chances and come away with a valued point.

The legends had a great training session and were raring to go for this one as we head over to Charnock Heath to take on Adlington Juniors Jaguars.

Team news|

We had both Roman who is now fit to play following his broken arm and Riley E away on holiday, Tyreese serving the last of his three match ban and Lakari also pulling out of the squad in the morning of the game due to illness.

The starting eleven was Riley B in the sticks, back four of Jak, Bentley, Jacob and Trey. A midfield five of Reece on the right wing, Captain Antoni in the middle with Elliot and Zak on the left wing. Connor occupied the CAM role with Noah leading the forward line.

On the bench or what we like to call 'Game Changers' were Oliver and Jake.

First half|

Team talks were done, warm ups complete, it was game time, just like that the referee blew to start the game.

The opening stages were quiet, with the first noteworthy piece of action arriving when Zak forced the Jaguars show stopper into early action. Reece and Antoni linked up well, allowing the former to test the home sides keeper again, but his effort was tame enough for the shot-stopper to deny.

Ten uneventful minutes passed before the noise levels ramped up at the Wigan Lane Sports and Cummunity Hub playing fields. Jake produced a ended a swift move by Elliot and Jak with a thumping volley that went over the cross bar by our number 29.

The home side had a chance to open the scoring just minutes later when their striker met the clever wingers inviting delivery, but Riley B was not to be beaten, tipping the headed effort over the upright.

The Legends response was a confident one, as Connor searched for the run of Noah, our number 9 tried his luck from outside the area, but the home keeper comfortably denied the Legends striker.

Zak had the final effort of the first half, when his free-kick from a tight angle nearly caught Adlington's number 1 out at his near post, but the 6ft 3 keeper did well to cover his ground and make the save. Yes, the U14's keeper really is that tall!

Second half|

The half time team talk was simple, we had a great first half and although we have plenty chances, we were not clinical and also not working hard off the ball we needed to work more as team.

Legends had the first chance of the second half, when a golden opportunity presented itself to Noah. After Jake’s excellent hold-up play, supporting runs from Zak and Connor linked up well, allowing the latter to play a square ball for the arriving Noah, who ultimately fired over the crossbar.

The Jaguars responded with a chance of their own, but Trey's heroics preserved the lead. Substitute Oliver peeled off his marker inside the six-yard-box, meeting Jakes inswinging delivery with a side-footed effort, but the home sides keeper again reacted superbly to turn the effort around the post for a corner.

Then on the 58th Minute Jacob and Jak combined to pass in field to Antoni who found Jake. As our number 29 muscled his way into the box his effort was deflected again by the number 1 of the Jaguars, however the ball landed at the back post to see Super Zak put the Legends deservingly ahead!! 0-1

Jake would have thought he put his side two up, when he wriggled his way into the Adlington penalty area, opened up his body, reversed a strike towards the near post, but his low effort agonisingly crashed over the woodwork.

Then just four minutes left it was heartbreak for the side from Breightmet as the scramble in the Legends box saw us clear it but it landed to the home sides midfielder, he calmly got his shot off with Riley B only managing to get his finger tips to it, it nestled into the corner of the legends net as the Jaguars reeled away in celebration. 1-1

Despite the Legends persistent search for a late winner, the decisive strike proved elusive and it was not our day. We take the valued point.

MOTM kindly sponsored by our away shirt sponsors Girling Engineeringand individually by JA Renovations was awarded to Connor. Our tricky number 7 had a magnificent attitude and the positivity shone through, he was always looking to play the ball forward and created loads of chances that were not taken but he didn't stop trying to keep cutting the opponents open. Quality today Connor, well done!

Legends TV caught up with birthday girl Lucy and here's what she had to say; ''It was good, them new hoodies look great, we may win next week you never know, how do I get home to celebrate my birthday now?''
