Win makes eagles finish top with only Heyside who can match on points

Moss Bank 1 - 2 Breightmet United
Final Game of the Season – Unbeaten Run Secured!

The sun set on a remarkable season as Breightmet United’s U14 Eagles took to the pitch for one final time – unbeaten, unbroken, and determined to finish what they started.

With the clocks springing forward overnight, it wasn’t alarms that had the coaches worried – it was the nerves. After months of hard work, early mornings, and dramatic matchdays, it all came down to this. One final push. One last battle. And the girls were more than ready.

From the first whistle, Breightmet looked sharp and focused. They took control early, pinning Moss Bank into their own half and dictating the tempo. Confidence flowed through the team as crisp passing and clever movement set the tone. Then, came a moment of magic.

Maicie, Lila, and Scarlett combined with some of the best link-up play seen all season – fluid, fast, and fearless. A slick passing move ripped through the Moss Bank defence like clockwork, and Scarlett applied the perfect finish to give Breightmet a deserved lead. The away end erupted. The nerves eased.

Soon after, the Eagles introduced their newest signing, Amber, into the midfield. You wouldn’t have guessed it was her debut. Calm on the ball, strong in the challenge, and always in the right place – she brought an added layer of control that allowed Breightmet to keep the pressure on. A few more chances came and went, but the score stayed 1-0 going into half-time.

As the second half began, the spring sunshine broke through the clouds and shone down on a growing crowd who had gathered to witness history. Moss Bank came out with renewed purpose, using the wings to create a couple of half-chances. But Lottie and Lucy had other ideas – both defenders showed incredible timing and tenacity to shut down any attacks before they could develop.

The longer it stayed 1-0, the more tense it became. You could feel it in the air – every tackle, every clearance, every pass had weight. But Breightmet struck again.

A corner from Lila caused chaos in the box. Lucy got the initial touch, knocking the ball forward, and Scarlett was perfectly placed to tap the ball into the net. It wasn’t a goal of the season contender, but it was one of the most important of the year. 2-0, and breathing room at last.

But football loves a twist. Just minutes later, a hopeful long ball wasn’t dealt with, and a looping shot from distance sneaked just under the crossbar. Moss Bank were back in it, and the final minutes became a real test of character.

One more heart-stopping chance came Moss Bank’s way, but the Eagles stood strong. Then, finally, the whistle. Full-time. Unbeaten. Mission accomplished.
