Match Report: Breightmet United 2 - AFC Burnden Park 0
The saying of the day was, “How did that not go in?” as Breightmet United’s Eagles continued their winning streak with another strong performance. Despite dominating the first half, a combination of close misses and impressive saves from Burnden Park’s goalkeeper kept the scoreline at 0-0 at halftime.
The second half, played uphill, was expected to be more challenging, but Breightmet United continued to press. After three close attempts, the breakthrough came when Shauna capitalised on an opportunity to put the Eagles ahead 1-0.
The debut of the “Lionel Messi” inspired kit seemed to work its magic, as Breightmet’s own number 10, Lila Hodson, scored a cracking goal to make it 2-0, channeling the energy of the football legend.
Dominating performances down the left-hand side were crucial, with Lottie solid in defence, and Scarlett and Niamh creating chances further up the field.
Both Parents’ and Coaches’ Player of the game went to Niamh Kitson, while the Players’ Player award went to Maisie Martin for her numerous last line of defence clearances.
AFC Burnden Park mounted some late attacks, but the Eagles’ defence held firm, securing their third clean sheet in four games.
