Breightmet United came into the game full of confidence after a great start to the season with 4 wins in their first 4 games, also helped by the fact that they were facing a struggling JPS side who sit low down in the table.
United started the game fast as within less than 5 minutes into the game, intricate forward play saw Logan creating a chance where he slotted Jack L in behind the JPS defence just inside the left of the 18-yard box. The young keeper in the JPS was clearly too slow when coming off of his line to intercept the pass as Jack dribbled round the keeper who then proceeded to foul Jack - starting up front this time. This gave United and early penalty and an early chance to take the lead. However, captain Alex Williams stepped up from 12 yards and unfortunately put his effort wide to the keepers left who did dive the correct way and give the JPS goalkeeper and early sigh of relief.
3 minutes later, the referee was required to make another big decision in the game as this time, Logan found himself in behind the JPS back 4. Once again, the keeper came off his line, and once again was dribbled around. Logans off balance shot was stopped off the line by the JPS centre half who then seemed to pass the ball to the JPS keeper which appeared to be a back pass. United’s players appealing for a back pass, but the referee saved the keepers hopes again all in the space of the first 8 minutes of the game.
10 minutes into the game, JPS kept inviting pressure onto their own back line as a throw in, in the defensive half of JPS was played across the box to the centre half. Under the quick pressure of Logan, the defender slipped on the edge of his own box, leaving Logan 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper and in no doubt, slotted it past the keeper into the bottom left hand corner to give United the deserved 1-0 lead.
United had now seemed to gain a foothold into this game as chances after chances were being created and just 4 minutes after the first, tiki taka football saw Logan driving towards the byeline before setting Nath, who found himself on the left-hand side of the box. His deep first time swinging cross found the head of Ben Schofield at the back post. His header back across goal found the run of Logan who’s header bobbled around in the box before coming of the keepers left post and hitting the back of the net to double Breightmets lead in just 14 minutes.
More chances were still being created or Breightmet in the early stages of the first half as great midfield play saw a ball get distributed to the left-hand side. The cross came in towards the JPS penalty spot as the big JPS 21 seemed to punch the ball away from danger and unsurprisingly, the second penalty of the game was given on 22 minutes. However, a different player was ahead of the ball from 12 yards. It seemed to be goalkeeper vs goalkeeper this time as Mitch stepped up. A stuttered run up towards the ball saw his effort deflect off the outside of the left-hand post and out for a goal kick. That’s 2 missed penalties in 22 minutes for Breightmet unfortunately.
20 more minutes passed in the first half as frustrations grew as Breightmet slightly dropped to the level and standards of JPS. JPS found some joy down the left-hand side multiple times as they worked their way into the box. The JPS forward seemed to shoot but his shot was blocked by the thigh of Luke. However, to everyone’s surprise the referee blew his whistle and pointed to the spot, 2 minutes before half time. Unfortunately for United, JPS converted to make it 2-1 in the 44th minute. Not an ideal time to concede…
In the last attack of the first half, JPS found more enjoyment down the left-hand side and a ball played across the box saw the big JPS 21 have his shot saved by Mitch in the united goal to keep the lead. The referee called for half time as this attack ended to give United a 2-1 lead going into half time.
It took just 7 minutes into the second half for United to pick up their momentum after a disappointing ending to the first half. Bens long throw hurled into the box caused havoc in the JPS box as Connah managed to rise highest and get a flick on towards the back post. Substitute Johnny saw his diving header at the back post hit the back of the net with his first touch since being subbed on, less than 30 seconds before. 3-1 United!
Whilst Johnny made an instant impact off the bench, Charlie also got involved straight away as he drove down the left-hand side into the JPS penalty area, in the 54th. As he was taking on his man, he was brought down by the JPS defender which left the referee with no choice but to give the 4th penalty of the game. This time, Connah was the taker who managed to slot his effort from 12 yards into the bottom corner with no mistake to extend United’s led to 4-1 with over 30 minutes of football left to play.
Once again, 2nd half substitutes seemed to brighten up the game as a ball threaded though and in behind the JPS defence helped Ste get on the end of it and whip a peach of a ball across the box towards the penalty spot as Charlie once again got there first and rose highest to head home for United to make it 5-1, 63 minutes in. JPS and their defence are under too much pressure and seem to be crumbling…
With 20 minutes left in the game, Nath, once again found himself in a dangerous position out on the left flank and chose to try and pick out Johnny in a dangerous position inside the box. His cross was met by the JPSA keeper; however, he spilled it and dropped it perfectly into Johnny’s path who slotted it into an open net to double his tally and make it 6-1 United.
Once again, subs Ste and Charlie linked up alongside Nat with 1 and 2 touch triangles who then found Connah in a pocket of space inside the box. He calmy rounded the keeper and slotted it into the back of the net for his brace and United’s 7th goal of the game.
With just 15 minutes to go, United stayed ruthless and didn’t step their foot off the gas as a ball from the midfield found the gap in the JPS defence which left Charlie alone in the box 1v1 with the keeper. He cooly placed his finish past the JPS keeper once again to extend United’s lead to 8-1!
In the 77th minute, a foul on the right-hand side saw Alex stand over the free kick. The left footed inswinger perfectly picked out the highest rising Connah timed his header perfectly seeing it fly past the helpless keeper. 9-1 United.
On a brace, Logan was subbed back onto the pitch late on in the game in the 85th minute. The last chance of the game saw Johnny getting onto the end of a ball down the line and a lofted cross into the box saw Logan grab his hattrick with an impressive, towering header to make it 10-1 to United.
The referee then blew the whistle for full time to give Breightmet United 3 points and continue there unbeaten 5 game winning streak. Next Sunday, Breightmet face 2nd place R’kix in what is probably the biggest game of the season so far as United set their aims high at winning the league title…
